TRAIL OF LONKO JUANA CALFUNAO
Dear Brothers and Sisters and all organizations that support our cause:
Today the 14 of November is the continuation of the trail against the Lonko Juana Calfunao Paillalef. She is accused of public disturbance, threats against the police . If found guilty , Lonko Juana Calfunao will be given 540 days in Jail.
Juan Paillalef Mapuche Community.
INTERNATIONAL PRESS RELEASE
TRADITIONAL MAPUCHE AUTHORITIES AND THE INDIGENOUS HUMAN RIGHTS NETWORK STATES THE FOLLOWING:
1.- As it is known in Chile and Internationally the Juan Paillalef Community, situated in Curaco , in the area of Cunco, has been denied their historical right to their lands. Legally owned by the community according to the merced agreement from 1906.
2.-From 1947, a road was built on community land, This been made a public road according to The Chilean Ministry of Urban Development.
From the above date until today the Juan Paillalef comunity has been subjected to different forms of repression, none of their human, cultural, political and territorial rights that they are supposed to have as an indigenous community have been respected.
3.- Today in the XXI century, with a government that claims to be democratic, there have been no changes in their dealings with the Juan Paillalef community. There is still repression, political and juridical persecution towards community members, there are records of Three arson attacks on community houses , one claiming the live of another lonko. The fiscals in charge of this cases have not given any clarity , results or found anyone responsible for this attacks.
4.-Presently Community members Luisa Calfunao,
Waikilaf Cadin Calfunao and Lonko Juana Calfunao
Paillalef, are charge with public disturbance declared to be a crime by the authorities leading this investigation. It is worth mentioning that
this charge against the community members would be declare a mistrial in other regions of Chile.
5.- Because of all the above mentioned the Traditional Mapuche Authorities and the Indigenous Human rights network fully support the Juan Paillalef community.
The Traditional Mapuche Authorities here summon demand the following:
That the Seremi of Justice of the region Cristian Dulaski quit his job, on the grounds of using relegation tactics and unjustly imprisoning Waikilaf Cadin Calfunao and other mapuche political prisoners in different jails across the region.
We would like to add that as Traditional Mapuche authorities that the Chilean government must develop a form of respect toward the mapuches and that decisions about the mapuches and the mapuche communities be taken with the participation of the mapuches
the government must consider that every community has its own traditional authority, lonkos ,machi, werkenes Collones ect.
