Presentación sobre la Persecución Judicial de los Mapuches en Chile En un envento paralelo al Grupo de Trabajo apoyado por la Organización para las Naciones y los Pueblos no representados (UNPO),

La Lonko Jefe Juana Calfunao, autoridad ancestral de la communidad Juan Paillelef, expusó brevemente la situación de su pueblo por medio de una película tratando de la represión a comunidades Mapuches por la policía estatal chilena.La Lonko estuvó persiguida durante muchos años, su casa fue destruida varias veces e incluso fue detenida. Su situación representa un caso extremo de violación de Derechos Humanos en Chile.A pesar de todas la difficultades y brutalidades que encontró en su camino, sigue luchando por la restitución de las tierras, hoy usurpadas por latifundistas, adyacentes a su comunidad, y de manera más ancha por “la vida, la tierra y la autodeterminación del pueblo Mapuche.”La película expusó el caso de la construcción de un camino en forma ilegal en la Comunidad Juan Pailallef con tal de facilitar el paso a empresas forestales transnacionales, por supuesto sin el consentiminento de los mismos miembros de la Comunidad. En respuesta a este hecho, familias de la Comunidad cerraron el camino como seña de protesta, y sufrieron una respuesta desproporcionada del gobierno (uso de fuerza irracional, comuneros tomados presos, detención de la Lonka)Aunque esta represión constituye sin duda ninguna un injusticia inmensa, el estado sigue proclamando que todo lo que ha hecho era ajustado al derecho. La Lonka Jefe Político opina que sufre persecusión por el hecho de que es una mujer y porque el gobierno tiene políticas y judiciales racistas. Sin embargo siendo según ella “la raza la más indomable” el pueblo Mapuche resistirá, luchando por su tierra, su identidad, su reconocimiento constitucional y su derecho a la auto-determinación.

In the framework of a WGIP side event, supported by UNPO, Chief Lonko Juana Calfunao, traditional authority of the Juan Paillelef Community talked about the situation of her people through the presentation of a film about the repression of Mapuche communities by the Chilean police. In the framework of a WGIP side event, supported by the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), Chief Lonko Juana Calfunao, traditional authority of the Juan Paillelef Community, briefly talked about the situation of her people through the presentation of a film about the repression of Mapuche communities by the Chilean police.Chief Lonko has endured many years of persecution, her house has been destroyed many times and she also has been detained by the Chilean authorities. Her situation represents one of the most extreme cases of human rights violations in Chile.Despite the amount of difficulties and brutality she has faced over this time, she continues to struggle for the recovery of land belonging to her people, land that has been under the occupation of wealthy landowners, and more generally for “the life, the land and the self-determination of the Mapuche people.”The film showed the case of the illegal construction of a path across the Juan Paillalef community with the purpose of enabling multinational enterprises access. As a sign of protest, members of the communities blocked the path. The government replied disproportionately with unreasonable use of force and detentions.Though this repression constitutes undoubtedly a huge injustice, the State continues to claim that all its actions were in accordance with the law.Chief Lonko thinks that she is suffering persecution because of her status as a woman and because of the racist practices of the government. According to her, as it is the most “indomitable race” the Mapuche people will resist, struggling for their land, identity, constitutional recognition, and the right to self-determination.
